Davao City Honors WWII Veterans

DAVAO CITY NEWS- In part of the country’s commemoration of the 70th Araw ng Kagitingan, Davao City gave honor to 15 World War II Veterans held at Freedom Park on Monday, with the theme: “Veterans: Catalysts of Genuine and Lasting Change”.
The event was participated in by the different agencies of the city and national level government. Among them were: the Veterans Federation of the Philippines and Sons and Daughters Association Inc., World War II Heritage Organization, Philippine Veterans Affairs Office, Disabled American Veterans and Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, Davao Historical Society Foundation Inc., Order of Knights of Rizal, Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines, 4th Degree Knights of Columbos, Department of Education, Philippine National Police, and Boy and Girl Scouts of the Philippines.
The honored veterans gave inspirational words and shared their experiences during their fighting years, giving emphasis on the youth who must remember their deeds as part of the country’s history.
The activity ended with a community singing “Ang Bayan Ko” with the Philippine National Police-Davao Region, reminiscent of the freedom that the veterans fought for the country and for its people.
