A second class city in the province of Davao del Norte, Philippines. The official name of this City is the Island Garden City of Samal. It comprises of 90,291 people according to 2010 LGPMS Census, being part of Metropolitan Davao and is only 2 km. away from Davao City, the most vital economic center in Mindanao.
Samal came from the word “Sama”, a tribal group originate in the island. Because of the Visayan who miscalled the word “Sama” it became “Samal”. Datu Taganiyug was the first Datu in the island, a native Peñaplata.
The City is also a rising industry area, the largest resort city in the Philippines. Due to it’s beautiful beaches, the Department of Tourism declared it as one of the best visiting Islands in Mindanao and the fastest growing tourist spots in the country.
